Nursery Manager JOB DESCRIPTION

 Accountable to: Owners

 1.      Purpose of the job

To manage all activities at Kiddie Capers, delivering high quality integrated full day-care and education to children aged three months to five years

To manage the setting and staff and take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Nursery & Preschool

 2.      Principal duties and responsibilities

Manage and co-ordinate the staff team in looking after children, including recruitment and selection, ongoing support and performance management, training and professional development, discipline and grievance

Manage, implement, maintain and review nursery policies and procedures, ensuring that the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Safeguarding & Welfare Requirements are met

Ensure best practice and an excellent standard of care and early education using  EYFS guidance

Mentor staff to ensure the policies and values of the nursery management are understood and implemented

Ensure that Safeguarding Children policies and procedures are adhered to and that staff are aware of procedures and carry them out.  Ensure close monitoring of children about whom there are concerns

Ensure that Health and Safety policies are implemented. Ensure that risk assessments are reviewed annually. Also ensure that Health and Safety checks are conducted daily by staff and regularly make additional checks that the nursery is a safe environment for children, including outdoors.

Ensuring that all procedures concerning the security of the children and premises are upheld

Keep all records concerning children, parents/carers and staff confidential and uphold the nursery’s confidentiality policy

Update Famly, including registers, children’s information, allergies etc.

Ensure that the Famly accurately reflects all children & staff present

Establish rotas for the cleaning of toys and equipment and check that the nursery is clean (both inside and out) on a daily basis

Ensure that the nursery’s medication and accidents procedures are followed correctly and that appropriate documentation is kept confidentially

Regularly check that food hygiene standards are being maintained throughout the nursery, and documentation concerning food probe, reheating food and fridge temperature records

Carry out weekly checks on fire safety equipment, including smoke alarm testing and keep records of these checks. On a daily basis check that all fire exits are clear. Carry out fire drills at least once a term and keep documentation concerning each drill 

Manage the nursery’s resources, including all nursery supplies, toys and other equipment, ensuring stocks of nursery supplies never run too low.

Maintain accurate records and files to record appropriate details of nursery operation and business.

Ensure staff deployment and planning is completed effectively with minimum disruption to nursery operations and minimum requirement for temporary staff

Implement the nursery’s Equalities Policy and ensure that equality and inclusion issues are at the forefront of the nursery programme and policies

Implement the nursery’s Safeguarding Children policy and ensure that child care issues are at the forefront of the nursery programme and policies

Ensure strong links with and the involvement of parents and carers, recognising that parental partnership is a key aspect of the nursery operation.

Define and maintain records of staff training and professional development requirements and ensure timely delivery of training requests

Develop opportunities for external training and share display exemplary behaviour and good practice

Participate in professional development and training

Understand and fully implement the nursery’s policies and procedures 

Oversee the nursery’s administrative and domestic functions, including supplies, kitchen, cleaning, record keeping, database and IT functions

Knowledge of nursery management software for interrogation of registers and fees, production of reports and basic information

Work with the Owners to optimise the quality of the nursery and business performance

Be a nursery key holder and be available to respond to out of hours emergencies

Carry out other duties appropriate to the grade and character of the work as may reasonably be required
